Permanently closed. The Velvet Curtain Social Club was a private on-premises lifestyle club at 1825 South Good Latimer Expressway, on the near-south edge of downtown Dallas between Deep Ellum and the Cedars. Billing itself as "Voted #1 Lifestyle Club in Texas," it served couples, single females, and select single males, with a private membership process pitched as the guarantee of a safe, friendly environment. Yelp's business profile dates the operation to 1990, with the club running at its final address under new ownership from 2010. Regulars consistently described the venue as an old speakeasy — an older building with no flashy neon, a mature and diverse crowd, and staff remembered as unusually welcoming to first-timers. The club's own photo tour walked through a lobby, bar, lounge with big-screen TVs, dance floor, public play room with a viewing area, and private play rooms; a private dressing area and vanity were provided for wardrobe changes, lockers were free, and a shower was available. The interior was smoke-free, with an enclosed patio for smokers and valet parking in a secured lot. The club ran weekends only — Fridays 9 pm to 3 am and Saturdays 9 pm to 4 am — with theme nights and games and prizes every Saturday. Door donations in its final years were $20 per couple on Fridays and $40 on Saturdays; single women entered free before 10 pm, first-time couples arriving before 10 pm had the door fee waived, and every event was BYOB with complimentary setups. By fall 2022 the club's own calendar showed all recurring events cancelled, its domain is now parked for sale, and it is absent from 2026 Dallas press roundups of area lifestyle clubs — it never reopened.
